Prior to the current Tax Credits system being introduced, working
faimiles with children could claim an allowance available from the
Inland Revenue (now HMRC) called Children's Tax Credit. You can
still make an application for this allowance, however the deadline
for making these claims is 31 January 2009. The allowance is either
£529 or £1,048.
IMPORTANT: Claims must be submitted by the 31st January
2009 deadline.
You may be eligible to claim if:
- You have a child born between 6th April 1986 and 5th April 2003
.
- The child lived with you for all or part of 2002/2003.
- You worked and paid tax for all or part of 2002/2003.
You may be eligible to claim the full allowance
of £1,048 if:
You can answer yes to the above questions and
one of your children was born between 6th April 2002 and 5th April
2003
Notes:
- Claiming this money will not affect your current or future
entitlement to Child Tax Credits or Working Tax Credits.
- Your marital status at the time will not affect your claim. You
may be eligible for this payment if you were married, living
together as husband and wife or single.
- To qualify for the payment, you or your partner must have
earned over £6,000 in the 2002/2003 tax year.
- You can only calim this allowance if you haven't
already claimed the allowance in 2002.
- If your final tax code on your April 2003 P60 ended in a H or a
T, you have already had the allowance.

In order to claim the allowance, you will need to complete
application form 11CTC and return it before 31 January 2009.
Use this form to claim Children's Tax Credit for tax year
2002-03. The last date to claim is 31 January 2009, claims for tax
year 2001-02 are no longer possible. Completed forms should be
